ORIGEN - Gold for Future

We are a group of professional jewellers from Barcelona committed to working with respect for the environment and human rights, and towards a CHANGE to a new model of (responsible) jewellery.

The collective is made up of 10 jewellery brands: adoro mi oro, Adriana Díaz H., Emilie Bliguet Ethical Jewellery, ILFO unique ecojewels, Joieriaipoesia, Juia Jewels, Koetania, Majoral, Marta Joieria Artística and Teresa Estapé, together with the NGO Medicus Mundi Mediterrània.

We want to influence the sector to promote a change in the way we make jewellery, as an essential driver of transformation in the face of the negative impacts linked to the extraction and commercialisation of the precious metals and gems that we use. To do this we want to stimulate critical knowledge and debate as well as access to resources and new paths towards sustainable jewellery that is increasingly responsible and obstacle-free. At the same time, we want to design ways in which to reach the public with the aim to communicate the problems that concern us and the existing alternatives, thereby promoting consumers who are more aware, more responsible and who have greater power for change.

We are currently involved in these lines of work:

- Facilitating spaces for exchange and learning

- Promoting responsible jewellery in jewellery studies

- Research into the availability of responsible materials

- Communication and information about responsible jewellery - Networking with other organisations and initiatives

Services, Opportunities and Events:

We share knowledge about the supply chains of the main materials used in jewellery, as well as the alternatives available, especially through our website and social media. We also research and look for ways to be more sustainable in our jewellery workshops and responsible in our companies, incorporating the criteria of the solidarity economy.

We have built a directory of suppliers from around the world who can provide traceable and responsibly sourced precious metals and gemstones, chains and sustainable packaging. We are gradually improving it. It is openly available on our website.

Once a year, we organise the Responsible Jewellery Dialogues. The videos are available on our YouTube channel. We also offer training sessions at jewellery schools and participate in events dedicated to sustainability in jewellery.

We are open to establishing partnerships with other initiatives with the same values, always promoting responsible jewellery and providing resources and practical tools to guide these transitions. On the other hand, we sometimes develop artistic projects such as joint exhibitions with pieces made from responsibly sourced materials.

Commitments & Key Aims:

Responsible jewellery is, in our opinion, an alternative that allows us to use our craft to contribute to the building of a fairer and more sustainable world, counteracting the negative impacts associated with the origins of the materials we work with.

The origin and traceability of the materials we use to create our pieces is an essential aspect in our conception of responsible jewellery. This leads us to ask ourselves, firstly what is the story behind each of the minerals and precious stones that we use. If we know that, we can look for ethical materials resulting from responsible mining initiatives that apply the criteria of fair trade, community development and respect for the environment.

This way of making jewellery also covers other aspects such as the integration of social and environmental responsibility in the operation of our workshops and the management of our companies, better communication with our clients and alliances with other professionals to generate more awareness for change.

We are committed to building this responsible jewellery paradigm and driving it forward in the jewellery sector.
